Octavo. 262pp., bound in black cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt over green, a fine sharp copy in a lovely unclipped dust jacket showing only very minute wear. A spectacular copy of one of Hemingway's most emotional and dramatic works and his first long work of fiction since "A Farewell to Arms". Housed in a cloth slipcase. [pb.4728]

First issue, 294(1)pp., bound in light green cloth lettered in gilt, spine decorated in gilt with lettering gilt over black, spine and board edges faded as usual but a sharp copy, neat and short owner's inscription "George from shorty/Xmas/1935", in first issue dust jacket showing some fading, only light spots of rubbing to corners, lightly creased along the bottom edge of front panel, along the top edge of rear panel and the rear flap, In all, still quite nice.

Hemingway, Ernest and Morris S. Musselman. HOKUM: a Three-act Play. Wellesley Hills, Mass: The Sans Souci Press, 1978. Galley Proofs. 1 of 3 uncorrected galley proofs originally copyrighted in 1921, but never published. This work precedes Hemingway's first book by two years, The manuscript was sold in the Jonathan Goodwin sale and documentation of its authenticity is supplied in the introduction. This is 1 of only 3 uncorrected typesetter's proofs run off by the printer William Ferguson for the publisher William Young. With original mailing label present from the Ferguson press stating with note that corrected galleys will follow. For all purposes, this is the only copy of the galleys for sale as one resides in a library in the South and the other in a private collection. The galley sheets are folded with several printer's notations, and are in fine condition. Housed in a handsome green cloth clamshell with spine label. [pb.4721]
